PARISIAN CHIC

"I've been browsing though Parisian street style to get some inspiration and tips- yano, kind of like a guide book but for fashion and probably quite a bit less/more necessary- (depending on who you ask)."
Two reasons Rough Dreams is very excited this week (actually make that one part excited, two parts organised) as I have quite a bit to squeeze in between now and next Tuesday. The reasons being that it may, in fact be my 23rd birthday this Friday the 23rd and the other small matter of spending said birthday in Paris, which if you've been following me on social networks you'll probably already know, since I've been harping on about it for quite some time!

THE LOST GENERATION- VOGUE JAPAN

"Now in-between mouthfuls of icy confections, I've been mulling over Vogue Japan and and their far more daring approach to the vogue template."

Today was one of those brilliant days that started with a gym n' a swim and a catch up with my very awesome bestie Cayla, so productive in a personal way, plus we got Ice-creams after and we all know a Magnum before breakfast can only mean an excellent day to follow (yes, such a balanced lifestyle I lead, hem).

Now in-between mouthfuls of icy confections, I've been mulling over Vogue Japan and and their far more daring approach to the vogue template. It would seem they are (comparably) far more focused on designer-art than designer-artefacts (aka advertisement) and I'm unsure as to whether that's because of the varying cultural norms, or is it, maybe, the eccentric and oh so crackers Captain at the helm Ms. Anna Dello Russo herself? Having not yet worked it out, I'll settle a mixture of the two.

THE BEAUTY BOOK

"It battles the elements like some epic hair god and leaves me looking less 'pampered poodle' more Cher a la 1970s."

Since it's that tricky time of the year here in Ireland, when most of the world is preparing for the summer season and we are waiting with bated breath (ultra sarcasm) for our weather to stop hurling Atlantic storms at us (I think even The National Geographic may be impressed by Irelands capacity for extremes- torrential rain/ sun/ hailstones all in 24 hours) and give us our 3-4 weeks of 'Summer'. I'm predicting a warm front around Exam time (thank you students) so until then I'm using some precautionary measures.

THE MET BALL 2014

"There was a clear line between those- or their stylists- who did and didn't do their research in what turned out to be quite a striking fashion- yes pun intended."

So this years theme was white tie and decorations, which I thought was a little vague but still there's a lot of room for interpretation and that was certainly what we got on the night! Compared to last years quite direct 'Punk' theme (which attendees embraced whole heartedly- Madonna anyone?) it was now a matter of working out how exactly to embody Americas first 'sort of' Couturier Charles James.

THE DISSECTION OF PARIS

"A city with an authentic attitude, that totally approves of cafe culture plus the art of real style AND wraps it all up in an accent and language that makes our English sound, well yano, kind of dull"

Bonjour mes amis,
If you have been following Rough-Dreams on FACEBOOK you might know I've been planning a trip at the end of the month of which I'm very excited about.
Judging by my greeting and the 'subtle' hint above you may have guessed that Rough-Dreams is in fact going to Paris!! This is a city which has had a hold on me for sometime and for many reasons. It is, of course the mother of romance, the father of food and the GOD of fashion, but there is a much smaller (albeit more complexed) reason I am so fond of the idea of this city and that is it's culture. This is a city with an authentic attitude, that totally approves of cafe culture & the art of real style AND wraps it all up in an accent and language that makes our English sound, well yano, kind of dull, so far for me, a total winner.
