THE MET BALL 2014

"There was a clear line between those- or their stylists- who did and didn't do their research in what turned out to be quite a striking fashion- yes pun intended."

So this years theme was white tie and decorations, which I thought was a little vague but still there's a lot of room for interpretation and that was certainly what we got on the night! Compared to last years quite direct 'Punk' theme (which attendees embraced whole heartedly- Madonna anyone?) it was now a matter of working out how exactly to embody Americas first 'sort of' Couturier Charles James.
(I'll be very honest and say I hadn't heard of him) and there was a clear line between those- or their stylists- who did and didn't do their research in what turned out to be quite a striking fashion- yes pun intended.

While flicking through the many show stoppers of the night I came across a handful of ladies who perfected the dress code- the Topshop crew, and Models Arizona Muse and Liu Wen to name a few were decked out in silk ball gowns in various jewel shades with classic Charles James cuts- oh yes, of course I did my research, (even if it was afterwards!) On the other hand there was a volume of slightly misguided incarnations, that I think would have been better suited to a different event hmm or maybe just left well alone, either way the one thing that the night wasn't was predictable.

Now onwards from the classics and the confused to the utter babes (above), who oozed style and although recognised the theme, did things in their own light- which in my book is always highly commendable and a plain old smart choice. These ladies forged their own path and were my highlights of The Met Ball 2014- of course in true Rough Dreams fashion I have compiled them amongst some pretty foliage in a jaunty array of lavishness just for you guys entitled Rough Dreams Met Ball Queens.

Also for some extra reading/ scrolling do check out this- brilliant pre-Met feature involving some top models and some serious ball gowns taking a 'whistle stop tour' of Manhattan- basically supermodels wearing couture, haring around the streets of New York with giant balloons and poodles, frequenting everywhere from central park to the underground and being followed by a swarm of (would you believe) Instagram paparazzi!
It's light hearted and something you definitely don't see everyday, I think my favourite bit to this is just seeing girls sitting around and hanging out in pieces that usually wouldn't get to see the outside world in their lifetime.

Peace out,

P.s You may or may not have noticed that Rough Dreams has had a little facelift! I'd like to welcome to our new environment, come back anytime:)
